History:
Born into a family of blacksmiths and samurai who lived in Owari, Masatomo was the misfit and youngest child of the family. He was the smartest of his five other brothers and his entire family, but he was also the weakest. He felt like he didn’t belong in his family for his great differences between his family, while he would read and study, his brothers would train and fight. Because of these differences, his older brothers would often mentally and physically abuse Masatomo.
After taking the abuse for many years, the day after he turned 17 he ran from his home and fled north to get away from the abuse. He continued travelling north until he came to the Hida Mountains. He lived with nature in the nearby forests and mountains becoming one with nature. He would leave his home in the wild only to get some food and books. He continued to study and live in the Hida Mountains for many, many years becoming smarter and smarter. His studies consisted of many different things, from “The Art of War” by Sun Tzu to many tradition remedies and medicines. He would avoid danger from wild beasts and people using his superior intelligence.
After living there for about 10 years, a man came and threatened his life. His usual outsmarting of his attacker didn’t work and so he had to fight the man. Using what he learned from his studies, he attacked the vital parts of the body. This caused the man to collapse, so Masatomo took the man’s sword and killed him. He kept the man’s sword for the rest of his life.
Now in the current day, at an advanced age, he continues to live in the Hida mountains, outsmarting predators and bandits, using the old rusty katana when necessary. Kato Masatomo still lives as a hermit, continuing his never ending studies.
